The University Boulevard widening project will soon enter its final phase of construction.
Traffic has been moved to the outer lanes this week to allow for construction in the middle of the roadway.
During this traffic configuration, the greatest impact will be felt at the intersections of University and Sunrise Road and University and Cypress Boulevard. In order to allow work in the middle of each of these intersections, drivers will be limited to eastbound and westbound movement on University. That is, drivers will be prohibited from through-movements across University at both intersections. Drivers will be able to use Mays Street to make right or left turns onto University Boulevard in this area.
This phase of construction will be completed in approximately two months while the entire project will wrap up in early 2023.
Once completed, this section of University Boulevard will be a six-lane, median-divided urban arterial road. Dual-turn lanes at Oakmont Drive and University Oaks will also be constructed.
It is included in the City’s five-year, $240 million Driving Progress transportation plan that aims to improve roadway capacity and connectivity throughout the City.
