The City of Round Rock officially opened its most recently completed fire station on Thursday, Dec. 10.
The new Station 3, located at 221 Sundance Parkway in the La Frontera Shopping Center, replaces the previous Station 3 that was built in 1991 on Rawhide Drive. Station 3 will serve the southwestern Round Rock area, including La Frontera, the Chisholm Valley neighborhood and Dell campus.
The location was decided upon after a data analysis that indicated it would provide strategic access to major roadways for better response times. The new 11,500 sq. ft. station will house an engine, aerial fire apparatus, Williamson County EMS ambulance crew and provide additional space for future growth.
“People move to this city because of safety; this fire station makes our citizens even more safe,” said Mayor Craig Morgan.
Round Rock residents approved funding for the relocation of Station 3 in the 2013 bond election; total cost of construction was $4,791,500.
