Check to see if you are owed money! The City of Round Rock reminds residents and business owners to search for their unclaimed money at roundrocktexas.gov/unclaimedproperty.
Unclaimed property may be the result of a check being returned as undeliverable or a check that has not been cashed after a certain length of time. This property is valued at $100 or less and presumed abandoned subject to Chapter 76 of the Texas Property Code. Any property valued over $100 is sent to the Texas Comptroller, who lists unclaimed property at claimittexas.org. Some examples of money that can become abandoned are:
- Payroll checks for former City employees such as a seasonal pool lifeguard or camp counselor who went back to school at end of summer.
- Vendor checks for companies that may have changed names, gone out of business, relocated, etc.
- Refund/overpayment checks, including utilities deposit refunds or bill overpayments to residents who have moved or deceased. Other examples may include refunds for a facility rental deposit, recreation class cancellation or a court fee overpayment.
