A humorous new public service announcement by the Round Rock Fire Department reminds residents to continue taking care of their Christmas trees for a safe and festive remainder of the holiday season.
The video shows the impacts of not watering your tree daily. Dry trees are much more likely to catch fire, while well-watered trees are safer. The Fire Department stresses that keeping a tree hydrated is one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce the risk of fire during the holiday season.
Other key holiday fire safety tips include:
- Inspect holiday lights. Check for frayed wires, broken bulbs, and proper labeling for indoor or outdoor use.
- Turn off lights when not in use. Unplug holiday lights before going to bed or leaving the house.
- Keep heat sources clear. Ensure candles, space heaters, and other heat sources are far from decorations and furniture.
