Old Settlers Park is experiencing and will continue to experience various closures to the public due to a major multi-year renovation project as a result of Round Rock’s voter-approved 2023 G.O. bond projects. Initial work began at the Joanne Land Playground in October, with ongoing temporary closures of certain park areas, interior roads and trails.
The closures are necessary for a comprehensive park upgrade, which includes a new special events pavilion and stage, expanded recreational facilities, and new sports courts. Significant updates to pedestrian crossings and interior roadways have resulted in a major closure along Harrell Parkway.
How to navigate Old Settlers Park’s Harrell Parkway closure (see map below):
- To Access the Multipurpose Field Complex: Visitors must enter from North Kenney Fort Boulevard.
- To Access the Baseball/Softball Fields, Tennis Complex, Apex Fields, and Yonders Point: Visitors must enter from Old Settlers Boulevard or North Red Bud Lane.
- To Access the Soccer Fields, Cricket Field, Disc Golf, and Rabb Pavilion and Playground: Visitors must enter from Highway 79 / Harrell Parkway.
The City of Round Rock is working to complete these projects as fast as possible to deliver these new amenities to the public. During this time, visitors should expect:
- Trail and playground access may be limited. Joanne Land Playground is being replaced as part of the overall project due to extremely high use by the public, and trail access will only be available outside of fenced areas, impacting trail users’ ability to “loop” around the entire trail.
- Construction zones will affect traffic flow and public access to certain areas (see road closure map below).
- Vehicle traffic will be limited on Harrell Parkway as improvements are made for pedestrian and event safety.
