The Round Rock City Council voted unanimously at the Feb. 8 meeting to call for an election to be held on the next uniform election date of Saturday, May 4, 2024.

The positions for Councilmember Place 3 and Councilmember Place 5 will be on the ballot, as well as proposed amendments to the City’s Home Rule Charter following a review of the charter by the 2023 Round Rock Charter Review Commission.

The Commission is a seven-member board that convenes every four years to review the City Charter and, if necessary, recommends changes to the City Council. The Commission provided its final report to the City Council at the Nov. 16, 2023 Council meeting, recommending two amendments to clarify the roles and procedures within the Municipal Court and the Planning and Zoning Commission, aligning with current legal standards and city governance practices:

1. Amendment to Section 4.03(a)(b)(e) and (f) of the Round Rock Home Rule Charter to clarify municipal court proceedings, the designation and requirements of municipal court judges, and the handling of costs and fines by the municipal court.
2. Amendment to Section 12.04 to delete subsection (3), allowing city staff to have the ability to approve, conditionally approve, or disapprove a plat, aligning with Section 212.0065(a) of the Texas Local Government Code.
