
Memorial Day: Remember and Honor Event

The Round Rock Veteran’s Coalition and City of Round Rock invite the entire community to honor and remember those who sacrificed all for our country at a Memorial Day Ceremony.
Location: Yonders Point Flag Plaza at Old Settlers Park

Guest Speaker: Major General Michael “Mac” McCurry
Maj. Gen. Michael “Mac” McCurry is responsible for ensuring the Command operates effectively by facilitating prompt and informed decision-making, resolving complex problems, integrating critical information, and maintaining clear communication across all levels. His role is pivotal in streamlining processes and fostering a collaborative environment to achieve the Command’s objectives.
McCurry is a native of Meridian, ID and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in 1988. Following graduation, he became a Regular Army Aviation Officer and a Scout Helicopter Pilot. He has served in command and leadership positions in Iraq, Kuwait, Turkey Germany, South Korea and the U.S., most recently serving as the Commanding General of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence, Fort Novosel, Alabama.
Maj. Gen. McCurry holds advanced degrees in National Strategic Policy from the U.S. Naval War College, and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. He is also a graduate of the National Security Policy Program and the Naval Operational Planner’s Course and is a certified Joint and Maritime Operational Planner.
Guest Speaker: Alain Babin
Alain pronounced “Alan,” was born in France. He married his high school sweetheart, Rosie in Del Rio, Texas. While there, they both enlisted in the U.S. Army as a husband-and-wife team. Together, they have two children, Alan a wounded combat veteran and Christy, a businessperson with Underwriters Laboratory.
After his enlistment in the Army, Alain pursued a career in law enforcement, spanning thirty-four years. He served with three different departments in California and Texas. His final twenty-five years were dedicated to the Round Rock Police Department, where he climbed the ranks and retired as an Assistant Chief of Police in 2019.
Throughout his career, Alain has been actively involved in various volunteer organizations. He has supported veterans’ organizations, the Police Special Olympics, and Stephanie Myers car shows, all of which raise funds for local charities. Currently, he serves as a Director with the Lakeway Police Foundation and the Lakeway Civic Corporation.
Alain also holds a Master of Science degree from Sam Houston State University and is a graduate of the National FBI Academy.
