Swim Lessons

The Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department offers swim lessons year round. In the summer, classes are offered at Lake Creek Municipal Pool. In the fall and winter, classes are offered at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center pool.

We proudly use the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim Program and offer classes Private Lessons and Group Classes in Level 1 to Level 5. In addition, we offer classes for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and adults. Each participant should come in a suit ready to swim. Infant and Toddler classes run 25 minutes. All other classes run for 40 minutes, unless noted.

Class Descriptions

These courses are designed to give individualized attention to swimmers of all ages at varying skill levels based on current swimming ability and personalized goals.  Courses are 25 min. long and meet on specified day. Class ratio is 1:1. (Ages 2 – Adult).

(All class days require parent or guardian participation) Instructors will introduce young children to safe behaviors around the water and develop swimming readiness by leading parents and their children in water exploration activities with the objective of having fun and becoming comfortable in, on and around water. The class will provide you with the knowledge and skills to orient your child to the water and to safety around water. Multiple adults per child are welcome. Ages: 6-36 months.

(All class days require parent or guardian participation) This class is designed for children who are not ready to take a class on their own. The skills from Preschool Beginner will be covered, with parent’s in the water by their child’s side.  Participants will acquire rudimentary levels of basic aquatic and safety skills.  There are no prerequisites. This class is designed for children who have never had a formal swim lesson. Children will learn: Pool Rules, blowing bubbles through mouth and nose, submerge face, front and back float and other American Red Cross swimming techniques with and without assistance. Multiple adults per child are welcome. Ages: 3-5

This class is designed to orientate children to the aquatic environment and help them acquire rudimentary levels of basic aquatic and safety skills. Majority of swim will be with assistance from an instructor. There are no prerequisites. Children will learn: Pool Rules, blowing bubbles through mouth and nose, submerge face, front and back float and other American Red Cross swimming techniques.  Ages: 3-5.

Preschool Aquatics Level 2 will help children gain greater independence in their swimming skills and continue to become more comfortable in the water. Majority of swim will be with assistance from an instructor. Must demonstrate swimming abilities from preschool aquatics Level 1 or passed the exit assessment. Children will learn: Bobbing, front and back glides/floats, tread water using arms and leg action and other American Red Cross swimming techniques. Ratio:1 to 6.  Ages: 3-5.

Learn to Swim Level 1 is an introduction to aquatic skills and will teach basics along with water safety, no prerequisites for this class but, is recommended by instructor after the completion of preschool Aquatics Levels.  Children will learn: entire safely into water, bobbing, becoming comfortable with water and other American Red Cross swimming techniques. Ages: 6-12.

Learn to Swim Level 2 will give children the fundamental skills and help them grow more confident in and around the water. Must demonstrate swimming abilities from learn to swim level 1 or passed the exit assessment.  Children will learn: to float without support, front and back glides, tread water using arm and leg actions and other American Red Cross swimming techniques. Ages: 6-13.

Learn to Swim Level 3 will build on the skills of level 2 by providing additional guided practice in deeper water . Must demonstrate swimming abilities from learn to swim level 2 or passed the exit assessment. Children will learn: head first entries from the side, rotary breathing, survival float and other American Red Cross swimming techniques. Ages 6-13.

Level 4 – Stroke Improvement
Learn to Swim Level 4 will develop confidence and refine strokes as well as discuss awareness of water safety. Must demonstrate swimming abilities from learn to swim level 3 or passed the exit assessment.  Children will learn: feet first surface dive, front crawl breaststroke, backstroke and other American Red Cross techniques. Ages 6-13. 

This course is designed towards your individual needs, comfort level, or fears by teaching swimming and survival skills. Lessons are geared to learning basic swimming techniques as well as improving skills and swimming strokes. Ages 13 years to Adult. (Adult skills can also be covered in our private 1-1 swim lessons.)

Fitness Swimmer ~ Free Coaching 

Want to improve your strokes and have a coach on deck to help you? This class occurs every Saturday morning during the summer months. A coach will be on deck to help you improve as a swimmer by providing you a basic to advance swim practice lesson while providing tips on improvement. The coach can help you learn lane etiquette, how to use swim equipment, refine your swim strokes or help provide you a strong weekly workout. This class is for those who have minimal to advance swim experience. –Drop in at Lake Creek Pool during Sat. Morning Lap Swim. Ages 13 years to Adult. 

Junior Lifeguard Camp [Summer Program]

American Red Cross Junior Lifeguarding is designed to guide youth to the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course by building a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills for future lifeguards.  Participants are not required to master or perfectly execute skills.  They will learn techniques and build stamina during this program.  Participants must be 11-14 years of age and successfully complete the in-water skills assessment.  Participants will receive a T-shirt, lifeguard whistle & lanyard as well as access to Micki Krebsbach Pool during their week of camp.  Swim suit and towel is required

Come join in on the fun!

Friday nights at Lake Creek Learn how to Log Roll!  Instructors will be on hand to get you started with the basics.  Be part of this fun activity that is sweeping the nation!  Log rolling is a great workout for general fitness, balance, and agility.  Fun for all ages!  Lifejackets provided to those unable to swim or need assistance.
