Tweens, explore Wonder and the nature of kindess among friends old and new at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Library.
Wonder, by R. J. Palacio, is the RRISD selection for the 2013-2014 "One Book, One District" reading initiative. The critically acclaimed, award-winning book is on this year's Bluebonnet Award List as well as this year's Lone Star Reading List.
The book describes the year 10-year-old Auggie Pullman transfers into a mainstream middle school. This transfer is particularly challenging, because Auggie's facial deformity often prompts strong reactions in other people, sometimes even causing people to avoid or even shun him.
During our discussion, we'll have pizza, first come, first served; we're looking forward to hearing what you think about the book. Bring a friend, and be open to meeting new friends.
This event is for tweens, ages 9-11; teens aged 12 and up, please join our Teen Book Club discussion of Wonder.
