The City of Round Rock will hold a dedication and unveiling of a sculpture of Dr. Robert Peters at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, in the Prete Main Street Plaza.
About Dr. Robert Peters
Born in Austin, raised in Midland and educated at Texas A&M, Doctor Bob “Doc” Peters was a family practice doctor.
Peters’ 1972 arrival in town was front-page news in the Round Rock Leader when Round Rock’s population was under 3,000.
Dr. Peters was then the only practicing physician in town, and frequently donated his services. For more than 38 years he has served as physician for the Texas Baptist Children’s Home and the Round Rock High School football team, attending nearly every game to care for the team’s athletes.
He was instrumental in recruiting the City’s first hospital (which was an important contributor to the City’s growth in the 1980s), where he has served as Chief of Staff, Chairman of the Department of Medicine, and on the Board of Trustees.
Dr. Peters passed away on Jan. 13, 2012.
