The 6th annual Texas Women's Disc Golf Championship is coming to the Sports Capital of Texas! The weekend of April 10-11, 2010 will bring Round Rock the best women's and junior girls Disc Golf talent the world has to offer. The Professional Disc Golf Association (P.D.G.A) sanctioned event will host competition for A-tier, professional and advanced golfers, and B tier, for all other divisions.
Vinnie Miller and Ed Coffey of the Double R Disc Golf Club, a premier disc golf club based in Old Settler's Park, Round Rock, TX, are proud to present the opportunity for this unique competition. Miller and Coffey were proud to say "disc golf, though much like traditional golf, is way more exciting!" The sport is also known as 'frisbee golf', 'frolf', and 'folf'. The event planners went on to explain how to participate in the sport. "Players use flying discs and play holes that start with a tee area and end with a Disc Golf Basket or Target. The object of the sport is to complete the hole by putting your golf disc in the basket in the fewest number of throws."
Based on information from the Disc Nation website, the sport began officially in the 1970's run by the P.D.G.A. With over 1,750 disc golf courses worldwide, it sounds like a great hobby to pick up. Disc Nation - Austin's first brick & mortar disc golf retail location - is very passionate about the Texas Women's Championship.
The Texas Women's Championship will be held right here in the Round Rock area. Saturday, adult and junior divisions will be playing in the newly installed Northtown Park courses. Sunday, competition will resume in Round Rock at Old Settler's Park.
Saturday night the event will host a player's party with fun, games and a chance for the players and staff to mingle. The party will be held at Buffalo Wings and Rings at 1901 Town Center drive just off A.W. Grimes.
