Current research on early literacy and brain development indicates that it is never too early to prepare children for success as readers. Parents of newborns, toddlers and preschoolers serve a critical role as their children's first teacher. The Every Child Ready to Read Early Literacy Inititiative is a program developed by The American Library Association, the Association for Library Service to Children, and the National Institute of Child Health & Human Development.
