P&Z to hold hearing on downtown mixed use zoning

An ordinance to create three new mixed-use zoning districts and rezone much of downtown to the new districts will be presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission in a public hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at City Hall, 221 E. Main St.

The goal of the new districts is to create a more active, pedestrian-friendly downtown by encouraging retail, restaurant and entertainment uses mixed with higher-density residential and office uses in buildings that are closer to the street with an emphasis on public parking rather than on-site parking. The draft adopting ordinance and an updated map of the affected area can be viewed on a special website set up for the proposal: roundrocktexas.gov/downtownzoning.
