July Fourth Frontier Days Celebration and Sertoma Parade ready to roll into Round Rock
A parade down Main Street, jalapeno pepper eating contest sponsored by Randalls, Sam Bass Shootout, carnival rides, Sertoma Rubber Duck races, skydivers and fireworks sponsored by HEB are all part of the City of Round Rock’s July Fourth Frontier Days Celebration and Parade.
Along with help from Round Rock Sertoma Club, who are spearheading the parade, the City of Round Rock and Frontier Days Team have scheduled a day of fun for the entire family.
Parade on Main Street
Kicking off the Frontier Days Celebration is the annual Sertoma Fourth of July Parade through downtown Round Rock. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and includes live commentary by FOX 7 News Sports Anchor and Reporter Denis de la Pena.
The parade will feature community groups, local businesses, City Council Members, Round Rock Police and Fire Departments and more. This year, we are very excited to welcome more than 250 soldiers from Fort Hood and their families into Round Rock as they join the parade and other festivities and we thank them for all that they do.
The parade will start at the corner of North Brown Street and Round Rock Avenue (next to Reid's Cleaners) and will proceed through Historic Downtown Round Rock.
Right after the parade, families are encouraged to enjoy the Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department Fun Zone located at the Prete Main Street Plaza featuring free family activities including face painting, caricature artists, balloon twisters and air brush tattoo artist.
Frontier Days at Old Settlers Park
After the Parks and Recreation Fun Zone, guests are invited to Old Settlers Park, 3300 E. Palm Valley Blvd., for the Frontier Days Celebration beginning at noon to enjoy vendor booths, a pepper eating contest, skydivers, rubber duck races, Swifty Swine Pig Races, Carnival rides, culinary delights and reenactments of the historic Sam Bass Shootout. The festivities will also include a petting zoo and pony rides.
The Sam Bass Shootout is a live, historical reenactment of the infamous story of Sam Bass and his gang, Deputy Sheriff A.W. Grimes and Deputy Sheriff Morris Moore. The live show tells the story of the “Sam Bass Gang” arriving in Round Rock with intentions to rob the bank and the resulting confrontation between Sam Bass and Sheriff A.W. Grimes. This presentation includes live horses, live ammunition (blanks), and stunts performed by trained actors and stuntmen.
Fireworks at Old Settlers Park
Independence Day celebrations will begin at 7 p.m. with free watermelon at the Lakeview Pavilion served by the Round Rock City Council and the Parks & Recreation Department. Skydivers will fly into the festivities before guests enjoy music from the Austin Symphonic Band. The HEB fireworks display will begin after dark with continued accompaniment from the Austin Symphonic Band.
Immediately following the fireworks, there will be a showing of Despicable Me 2 as part of the Movies in the Park program.
As always, entry into the festival is free. A wide variety of food vendors will be available for guest enjoyment and refreshment (don’t forget the water!) and a ticket booth will be set up outside the carnival area for your convenience.
This event is made possible by the following organizations: HEB, KASE 101 Radio, FOX 7 News, Randalls Market, and Spirit 105.9. The event schedule is subject to change.
