Round Rock celebrates July 4th with annual Frontier Days festival, Sertoma Parade

A patriotic parade, jalapeno pepper eating contest sponsored by Randalls Market, Sam Bass Shootout, carnival rides, Sertoma Rubber Duck Races, skydivers, Movies in the Park featuring the movie The Amazing Spiderman and fireworks sponsored by HEB are all part of the City of Round Rock’s July 4th Frontier Days Celebration and Parade.

Along with help from Round Rock Sertoma Club, who are spearheading the parade, the City of Round Rock and Frontier Days Team have scheduled a day of fun for the entire family!

Kicking off the Frontier Days Celebration is the annual Sertoma 4th of July Parade through downtown Round Rock. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and includes live commentary by KASE 101 radio personality Bama Brown & FOX 7 News Sports Director Denis de la Pena.

The parade will feature community groups, local businesses, City Council Members, Round Rock Police and Fire Departments, Military personnel and their families and more.

We are excited to welcome more than 150 soldiers from Fort Hood and their families into Round Rock as they join our parade and other festivities and we thank them for all that they do. The parade will start at the corner of North Brown Street and Round Rock Avenue (next to Reid's Cleaners) and will proceed through Historic Downtown Round Rock.

Also downtown, immediately following the parade, the Prete Plaza will come alive with face painting, caricature artists, a balloon artist, air brush tattoo artist and more for FREE family fun! The fun will run 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The new Main Street Fountain will be on so kids can enjoy the geysers of water shooting into the sky to cool off.

Frontier Days Celebration
After the parade, guests are invited to Old Settlers Park, 3300 E. Palm Valley Blvd., for the Frontier Days Celebration beginning at noon to enjoy vendor booths, a pepper eating contest, skydivers, Sertoma Rubber Duck Races, culinary delights and reenactments of the historic Sam Bass Shootout. The festivities will also include a petting zoo and pony rides.

This year’s celebration will include several carnival rides from Fun Time Rides that will include, among others: Tasmania Devil, Balloon Race, and Spinout as well as a classic favorites. A total of 13 rides will be available for residents to enjoy.

The Sam Bass Shootout is a live, historical re-enactment of the infamous story of Sam Bass and his gang, Deputy Sheriff A.W. Grimes and Deputy Sheriff Morris Moore. The live show tells the story of the “Sam Bass Gang” arriving in Round Rock with intentions to rob the bank and the resulting confrontation between Sam Bass and Sheriff A.W. Grimes. This presentation includes live horses, live ammunition (blanks), and stunts performed by trained actors and stuntmen.

Independence Day celebrations will begin at 7 p.m. with free watermelon at the Lakeview Pavilion served by the Round Rock City Council and the Parks & Recreation Department.

A skydiver will fly into the festivities before guests enjoy music from the Austin Symphonic Band. The HEB fireworks display will begin after dark with continued accompaniment from the Austin Symphonic Band.

Movie in the Park
Immediately following the fireworks, there will be a showing of The Amazing Spiderman as part of the “Movies in the Park” summer series.

This event is made possible by the following organizations: HEB, KASE 101, FOX 7 News, Randall’s Market, and Spirit 105.9.
