Celebrating National Community Development Block Grant Week, April 1-6

Download PowerPoint Presentation (9MB)

The Round Rock Housing Authority used CDGB funds to install a playscape and basketball court at 1505 Lance Lane.

The 2013 National Community Development Week will be celebrated April 1-6. This annual campaign focuses local as well as national attention on the outstanding accomplishments of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.

National Community Development Week provides an opportunity to demonstrate the importance of this program in the Round Rock community.

Helping low-income homeowners
In Round Rock, the CDBG Home Repair Program has assisted 55 low-income homeowners with substantial repairs such as roofing, plumbing and electrical work. It has also provided grants in order to improve home safety and bring substandard properties into code compliance.

Aiding City projects

The City of Round Rock's Parks and Recreation Department used CDGB funds to install a synthetic turf field at Buck Egger Park.

The CDBG program has also provided funds for improvement projects for the City, such as:

  • Buck Egger Park
  • Veterans Park
  • Greenhill neighborhood street improvements

Funding local non-profits
Round Rock’s CDBG program also provides funding for local organizations that support the community. CDBG funds helped build a new restroom for the local YMCA and helped the Round Rock Housing Authority install a playground and basketball court at 1505 Lance Lane.

Other social service agencies assisted with CDBG funds include:

  • Round Rock Area Serving Center
  • Austin Tenants Council
  • Literacy Council of Williamson County
  • Foundation Communities Tax Center
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Bluebonnet Trails MHMR
  • Hope Alliance Crisis Shelter
  • Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County

About the Community Development Block Grant program
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program was enacted into law as part of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. CDBG’s main purpose is to provide decent, safe and sanitary housing, a suitable living environment and economic opportunities to low- and moderate-income people.
