SCOT WILKINSON

Scot Wilkinson joins the City of Round Rock as Director of Arts and Culture, following his tenured stay for the past seven years with the Richardson Symphony Orchestra in Richardson, Texas. Wilkinson, who was introduced to the City Council at its packet briefing on Nov. 6, will be responsible for implementing the arts and culture master plan (PDF) approved by the Council last year.

Wilkinson tripled the size of the Richardson Symphony’s individual and corporate giving, and the symphony was awarded the largest foundation grant in its 50-year history by Texas Instruments and Meadows Foundation.

Having come from Denton, Texas, as the Executive Director of Denton Community Theatre and the manager of the Campus Theatre Performing Arts facility, Wilkinson developed a highly successful program and led the theatre company to maintain more than 1,600 season subscribers for 11 successful seasons and in 2004 the theatre company received the National Endowment for the Arts award as “Top Community Theatre in the Nation.”

He has also worked for the City of Harlingen, Texas, as its first Arts and Entertainment Director, Executive Director for RioFest, manager of the Sabira Gallery in Harlingen, manager for the Richardson Auditorium at Del Mar College, and taught seventh graders in the Del Rio ISD.

Wilkinson graduated from Angelo State University with a Master of Arts in Theatre and Arts Management degree, and is an accomplished technical, stage and musical theatre director. He also is a graduate of the Leadership classes in Richardson, Harlingen and the Rio Grande Valley. Scot and his wife, Carol, enjoy all the arts, antiquing and enjoy traveling together.
