The City of Round Rock was awarded a $39,346 matching grant from Oncor’s City Matching Grant Program for installing energy efficient lighting and HVAC systems at Round Rock City Hall.

The City Matching Grant Program helps cities save energy and money by offsetting the costs to implement energy efficiency improvements. The city’s improvements will save more than 56,000 kilowatt-hours of energy annually, equivalent to the carbon dioxide emissions of approximately 4,000 gallons of gasoline, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency calculations. 

“The grant from Oncor was instrumental in completing this project,” said Grant Coordinator Laurie Born. “We’re proud to take these necessary steps to make Round Rock efficient and sustainable for years to come.”

Grants are awarded for up to 50 percent of the cost of energy efficiency project installations, up to a maximum of $50,000. Grant applications are judged on several criteria, including demonstrated financial need, the expected energy savings of the project and the speed with which it can be completed.
 
“Now more than ever, it’s vital our local governments have the resources they need to implement energy efficiency improvements in their facilities,” said Oncor Area Manager Eddie Ferguson. “This is exactly the type of energy-saving project the City Matching Grant Program was created to encourage.”
