The Round Rock Police Department patrol car fleet is undergoing its first restyle in 12 years. The new design also coincides with the end of Ford’s iconic Crown Victoria-Police Interceptor production at the close of the 2011 model-year.

Department members chose to update the patrol fleet’s exterior styling with a modern take on the traditional black and white color scheme which many peer agencies have recently adopted.

The department’s patrol car fleet of 153 vehicles, comprised mainly of Ford Police Interceptors (formerly tagged as Crown Victorias) will undergo scheduled replacement beginning with the current and final inventory of a dozen 2011-model Interceptors and 3 Chevrolet Tahoes. Future fleet vehicles, regardless of model, will share the new graphic design. Current fleet vehicles will not be retrofitted.

The first of the new vehicles are expected to be deployed within 5-7 days; an example will be displayed in front of the Round Rock Police Department from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12.
