Library to offer expanded digital content
New service offers downloadable audiobooks, eBooks, music, and video
On Dec. 17, the Round Rock Public Library will launch a new service, expanding its collection with downloadable audiobooks, eBooks, music, and video, through a service called OverDrive. As part of the Central Texas Consortium, Round Rock has partnered with other libraries to offer downloadable materials to our patrons. Library card holders can check out and download digital media anytime, anywhere by visiting http://ctdl.lib.overdrive.com/ after Dec. 17.
Users may browse the website, check out with a valid library card, and download to PC, Mac, and many mobile devices. Users will need to install free software. For audiobooks, music, and video: download OverDrive Media Console. To read eBooks, users will need Adobe Digital Editions. Titles can be enjoyed immediately or transferred to a variety of devices, including iPod, Sony Reader, the NOOK and many others. Some audio titles can also be burned to CD to listen on-the-go. Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period. There are no late fees!
“We are very excited about offering this new service to our patrons,” said Theresa Faris, Collection Development Manager. “Since this is a consortium, we have pooled our resources with other libraries to offer a sizable opening collection in all of the available formats, eBook, audio book, music, and videos. And after downloading the necessary software to your computer or device, it is simple to check out and download materials that are automatically returned!”
