October art at the Library
Concrete Abstractions, a photography exhibit by Mark Zell

The public is invited to view Concrete Abstractions, a photography exhibit by Mark Zell in the gallery space of the Round Rock Public Library. This exciting exhibit will be on display during the entire month of October during regular library hours.

Mark Zell started shooting black and white film in the mid-1970s.  He still finds that working in a darkroom with analog materials is magical. Most of the photographs in this exhibit were inspired by similarities of form—e.g., shape, tonality, line,—between disparate subjects.  When three-dimensional subjects are translated to two-dimensional photographs, the equivalence in form between the subjects (such as clouds and concrete) becomes more apparent.  The intent of this series of photographs is to encourage the viewer to perceive things in non-literal ways.

There will be a reception for the artist on Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the gallery space.

If you would like more information about this topic, or to schedule an interview, please call Tricia Brauer at 512-218-7007 or e-mail at [email protected].
