Library director retiring in December

Library Director Dale Ricklefs
Dale Ricklefs
Library Director

Library Director Dale Ricklefs will be retiring December 31 after 30 years of service with the city of Round Rock.

Ricklefs was hired a week before the opening of Round Rock’s then-new library in 1980. She has overseen the library as it has grown from a collection of 11,000 to more than 200,000 items. The building, which was recently renovated, has grown from 5,700 square feet to 42,000 square feet. The library has approximately 65 patron computers with Internet and wireless access.

The library added a new form of self-check for patrons, called RFID, in 2010. More than 91 percent of all circulation is now by the patron, not the staff.

About 50 percent of Round Rock’s population has a library card. The library serves more than 5,000 children during its popular Summer Reading Program.

Ricklefs serves on the newly formed Round Rock Arts Council, whose mission is to make arts more visible in the city. She also helped form the non-profit Literacy Council of Williamson County to support literacy efforts in the area. She was the City’s first webmaster and the first editor of the City’s print publications.

The city will begin its nationwide search for a new director by the end of September.
