Movies in the Park, 5k, Concert Series and Lake Creek closing all happening this weekend

A lot is happening in Round Rock this weekend, so grab your planner and write this all down!

On Friday, August 14, Movies in the Park is playing Igor. The movie starts at dark, but all pre-movie activities start at 7:30 pm. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket. There will be vendors out there, but feel free to bring your own food. Get more information at www.roundrocktexas.gov/parksandrec under special events.

On Saturday, August 15, the 5k for Clay is happening at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center. If you haven’t sign up, it’s not too late. You can register the day of at the recreation center before the race. The 5k benefits the Clay Madsen Recreation Center and will be a fun run down the Greater Lake Creek Trail and A.W. Grimes. On Sunday, August 16, Texas Country music singer, Paul Eason will be playing at the Round Rock Amphitheatre for the 2009 Round Rock Summer Concert Series. He’s the last of the performers this summer, so come out and enjoy the concert. Visit www.roundrocktexas.gov/concerts to get information about the concert series.

Also, this is the last weekend that Lake Creek Pool will be open. The other pools will be open after this weekend, but if you’re a fan of Lake Creek this weekend will be your last chance to enjoy the pool! Get more information about pools and their closing dates at www.roundrocktexas.gov/pools.

Outlaw Trail 100 registration now available online

Attention all cyclists! The time has come for you to register for the Outlaw Trail 100. The Outlaw Trail 100 is a non-competitive cycling tour where cyclists from across Texas ride through Williamson County at their own pace. The tour features 10 mile, 25 mile, 40 mile, 50 mile, 63 mile, 100K and 100 mile loop courses.

You can register online through www.active.com or you can download the printable .pdf and send it through the mail to the Parks and Recreation office at 301 W. Bagdad Ste. 250 Round Rock, TX 78664.

You can register the day of at packet pick-up in Old Settlers Park, but this year Parks and Recreation is capping the number of participants at 900. This is a popular event. They have reached and passed this number many times in the past, so registering as soon as possible is a good idea.

Fall program registration starts today

Registration for all fall Parks and Recreation programs starts TODAY, August 3. Our Kids’ Clubhouse After-School Program is almost full, so sign up quick!

We also have other fun programs for the kids. There are toddler and youth sports programs and classes, as well as, other recreational activities like arts, cooking, dance and gymnastics.

This is also a great time to look into the Adult Fitness and Wellness classes that Parks and Recreation has to offer, plus the adult sport leagues.

Look through the Program Guide and register for classes, leagues and more on www.roundrockrecreation.com. Also, you can pick up a Program Guide and register at the Parks and Recreation office or the Clay Madsen Recreation Center.

The 2009 Fall Program Guide is now available

The 2009 Fall Program Guide that contains all of the informtion City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation programs going on this fall is now available in hard copy! You can get it from the Clay Madsen Recreation Center and the Parks and Recreation office.

This is going to be a handy tool because on Monday, August 3 all City of Round Rock residents will be able to register for all fall programs. You can register online, on the phone or in person at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center and the Parks and Recreation office.

Not a resident but still want to enjoy fall parks and recreation programs? You can! Monday, August 10 is the day that non-residents of Round Rock can register for fall programs.

Register for Kids' Clubhouse After School Program

The Kids’ Clubhouse After School Program is now taking registration for the next school year. For those who have registered for Kids’ Clubhouse in the past, you can register this week for the program. Those who have not registered before can do so next week starting on July 6.

Kids’ Clubhouse is a popular after school program for children in grades K-5. This program runs through the regular school year and operates Monday – Friday from 2:45 pm to 6 pm at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center.

The Kids’ Clubhouse provides daily activities including homework/reading time, small and large group activities, sports, arts and crafts, science and nature, and special events.

Availability goes fast so register as soon as you can! There are different payment options available. All registrations occur at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center Administration Office, Monday-Friday, from 8 am to 6 pm.

Slam'n Jam'n idea for summer fun!

Are you looking for other summer fun? There are sports camps going on through out the summer for many different sports. Slam’n Jam’n basketball camp is June 8-12. Children 5-9 years-old go to camp from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and children 10-15 years-old go from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The camp is the Clay Madsen Recreation Center. The fee to participate is $79 for residents of the city. Non-residents can participate for $84.

Collegiate coaches will teach boys and girls the basic fundamentals of shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, offensive and defensive strategies. Participants are to wear comfortable gym clothes and tennis shoes. All Slam’n Jam’n participants will receive a T-shirt and basketball.

It always helps to be ahead of schedule. The upgrade of our computer system went smoothly and we were able to put www.roundrockrecreation.com back online already!

Customers can once again browse programs and register online for fall programs. Registration for spring programs begins on December 1 but you can log on today and browse the offerings for you and your family. If you have any questions call 512-218-5540.

People and Parks Fund

The People and Parks Fund is a giving circle that citizens are able to join. By making a donation to the fund, you automatically become a member of the foundation and are given the opportunity to vote on what park projects you would like enacted. All projects will be submitted by the Parks and Recreation Department and from there, members will vote on which projects they want to see take place. This is a great way to ensure that your money goes right into the parks of Round Rock.

If you want to become a member you must donate before September 30, 2008 to be able to vote on this years' projects.

Donations:
$10 per child
$15 per individual
$30 per family (Donations are being accepted through September 30, 2008)

Summer Concert Pictures PLUS Online Registration for Non-residents begins Today!

Pictures from Sunday's concert with Pride and Joy will be loaded on the City's flickr page today. Check out the fun and see if you were captured in any pictures. The next concert is September 14 featuring the Los Texas Wranglers. This is the last summer concert for the season, so if you have not been able to make it out yet, we would love to see there!
