It is always fun to see the dogs (and people for that matter) interacting at our park.
Because of heavy use, Area 3 of the park is closed to allow for new grass to grow in. No need to worry, the park was designed to allow for an area to be closed at any given time just for this purpose, so please continue to come enjoy the park.

Area 3 is expected to re-open by the end of the year.

Get The Most Out of Your Summer

Are you taking advantage of the summer days? There is so much to do during the summer. Ride your bike along the Brushy Creek Trail, take a dip in one of Round Rock's three swimming pools, join that new club you have been wanting to try, get involved with volunteer work or take your dog to the dog park for a play-date. I always feel that I have more time during the summer. If you feel the same way I do, then start doing something fun with your extra time. Take advantage of the great parks, events, and classes in your community.

Just to remind you, some summer events to look out for are: Summer Concert Series, Movies in Your Park, Cultural Summer Series, new classes at the Clay Madsen Center and sport leagues for adults and children. It is a great time to get involved and enjoy these summer days. Although we might complain about the heat, as Texans, we know deep down that this is our favorite part of the year, so enjoy it!

Visit our website at www.roundrocktexas.gov and check out some fun recreational happenings to help you better enjoy your summer.

Dog Park Update

I am glad that people are commenting about the dog park. Your comments give me great feedback that I can relay to make the park better and more enjoyable for the community.

I have a few updates on the Dog Depot: The running water connection should be complete by Monday (June 9, 2008) This will provide the dogs with a constant supply of water, which is especially great in this heat. Also, there will be temporary signs put up around the dog park to make sure first time users know where to park and enter (this can be confusing). Permanent signs will be put up by the end of the summer.

Future amenities consist of a shading structure for the small dog area.

Please feel free to comment and let me know what you think.

Have you visited the Round Rock Dog Depot yet?

I have just moved to north Austin and have been looking for a place to take my puppy to play. I am used to taking her to all the parks in south Austin where she can play, socialize and tire herself out. Unfortunately, the only "dog parks" I can find in north Austin are trails where there are very few other dogs to play and no fences. So, if your dog is not necessarily the best listener, then you have to keep them on a leash. My dog did not find this as fun....

But good news! For anyone living in north Austin and especially those in Round Rock who are looking for a place to let your dog have fun and play without you having to provide the action, you have a great dog park available to you. The Round Rock Dog Depot is a 1.85 acre park that is FENCED and leash free. The park is located at 800 Deerfoot Drive (behind Lake Creek Pool). If you haven't checked it out yet, I strongly recommend it. Your dog will love you for it.

Also, Parks and Recreation have been trying to think of some events to hold at the dog park. For example, a talent show, yappy hour, meet and greet, etc. I am welcome to all ideas, so feel free to share!

What Dog Park events do you want?

The City of Round Rock opened the Round Rock Dog Depot, the city's first dog park, within the city's Lake Creek Park on March 29. Now that the park is open, the City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department wants to know what kind of events you'd like to see at the dog park! We have some ideas, but we want your feedback.

Do you want a giant dog walk event? Barktoberfest? Yappy Happy Hours? Pet adoptions? Done Gone-it Microchip events?

Post your ideas and we'll compile a survey for you to vote on the best ideas.
