Round Rock rocks lifeguard competition

Friday, July 10 two lifeguard teams, the RR Rockin’ River Rats and RR Krebs Creek, represented the City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation at the Central Texas Lifeguard Competition at the UT Swim Center. At the competition teams of lifeguards demonstrated their skills in the certain areas of first aid, CRP and water rescue techniques.

This competition gives the lifeguards a chance to prove the quality of their skills. They did a great job in this close competition where in some case they missed first place by only seconds.

The RR Rockin River Rats placed first in the scanning event, second in the backboard event and forth overall at the competition behind three teams from Schlitterbaun, which is a big accomplishment. The guards on the team are, Leah Anderson, Travis Luth, Ariel Maughan and Zach (Zorro) Rios.

The RR Krebs Creek team placed sixth overall at the competition. The lifeguards on the RR Krebs Creek team are, Luke Berhard, Amy Frame, Alex Herring and Shea Robinson.

Parks and Recreation is proud of the work the lifeguards did to prepare and preform in the competition! Their preformances in this compeition show that they all really know their stuff.

Micki Krebsbach pool will be closed until 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 11

Micki Kresback Pool will be closed until 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 11 due to the Dolphins’ Divisional Swim Meet. It’s a home meet for the Dolphins and an important one as well, so let’s give our support to them and hope they do great.

Want to get to the pool before 3 p.m? Don’t worry, our other two outdoor pools will be opening at normal time. Lake Creek will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. and Rock’N River will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Clay Madsen Recreation Center pool is closing June 18-21.

Thursday, June 18 the Clay Madsen Recreation Center pool will be closed for maintenance. The pool will remain closed through June 21, but will open again on June 22. While the pool is closed all aquatic programs that take place at Clay Madsen are cancelled.

If you are looking for fun visit one of the City’s outdoor pools. If you are looking for exercise don’t forget that the Clay Madsen Recreation Center has other amenities, such as, a weight room, basketball courts, racquetball and tennis courts.

Summer swim lessons!

Looking for something to do this summer? Have fun in the sun while learning to swim with swim lessons by the City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation.

The City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation uses the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program. Classes go from levels 1 to 5 and are also offered for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and adults. The infant, toddler and preschoolers classes last 25 minutes and all other classes last 50 minutes.

All swim lessons are held at the Lake Creek Municipal pool during the summer months. For more information and to register for swim lessons go to www.roundrockrecreation.com.

Last Chance to Splash This Labor Day Weekend

So school has started and summer officially feels over, BUT Rock' N River and the Parks and Recreation Department want to give you a couple more days of summer fun by re-opening the Aquatics Center for the Labor Day weekend. This is the last chance to enjoy the Rock' N River until next year. The weather should be nice and hot so it will be a perfect way to cool off, relax and enjoy the long weekend!!

Rock' N River will be open Saturday, August 30 through Monday, September 1 from noon - 6 pm. Micki Krebsbach Pool and Lake Creek Pool will remain closed this weekend.

Pool Closures

The Round Rock summer season is coming to an end and pools will be closing within the next couple of weeks. It's sad, I know!

Lake Creek Pool will be the first to close on Sunday, August 17, Micki Krebsbach will close the following Sunday, August 24 and Rock' N River Family Aquatics Center will be the final pool to close on Monday, August 25.

Before you get too sad, Rock' N River will re-open one last time for the Labor Day weekend, Aug. 30- Sept. 1. Bring the kids and the family out to enjoy a refreshing and relaxing weekend!

So make sure to visit the pools before they close. Finalize those nearly perfect tans, cool off a couple more times and relax at your favorite pools.

I hope you have enjoyed your summer season, and the good news behind all this is that we are moving closer to cooler weather (slowly)!!

Round Rock Lifeguards Compete in the South Texas Lifeguard Competition

Congratulations to the Round Rock lifeguards for thier success in the 2008 South Texas Lifeguard Competition!

This was the second year that Round Rock has entered the competition. Round Rock entered the Rock’N River Donuts, Lake Creek Ligers, and Kresbach Rescuers. In order to prove their lifeguard skills, the Round Rock teams were put to the test with various events. Some of these events include: First Aid scenarios, Spinal Management, Water Resuscitation Rescue, Passive Victim Recover Relay and CPR for the Professional Rescuer Scenarios. Scenarios ranged from drowning and hypothermia victims, to head gashes and chemical burns. Using strict reviewing criteria, the teams were reviewed, ranked and placed.

Rock'N River medaled 5th in the Rescue Scenario!

The City is very proud their lifeguard's accomplishments and we look forward to their future success in next years' competition.

Get The Most Out of Your Summer

Are you taking advantage of the summer days? There is so much to do during the summer. Ride your bike along the Brushy Creek Trail, take a dip in one of Round Rock's three swimming pools, join that new club you have been wanting to try, get involved with volunteer work or take your dog to the dog park for a play-date. I always feel that I have more time during the summer. If you feel the same way I do, then start doing something fun with your extra time. Take advantage of the great parks, events, and classes in your community.

Just to remind you, some summer events to look out for are: Summer Concert Series, Movies in Your Park, Cultural Summer Series, new classes at the Clay Madsen Center and sport leagues for adults and children. It is a great time to get involved and enjoy these summer days. Although we might complain about the heat, as Texans, we know deep down that this is our favorite part of the year, so enjoy it!

Get ready for fun in the sun! Saturday, May 31, 2008, Lake Creek Municipal Pool, Micki Krebsbach Pool, and Rock'N River officially open for the summer. Cool off and relax at your pool of choice. It's a great place to spend the hot summer days.

This weekend's weather forecast shows nothing but sunny skies and 90 high's. So if you are like me and are just waiting to get that first summer sun, opportunity rings!

Remember pools only take cash (Adults range from $2-3 and Children $1-2).
