Happy Father's Day to all the dads in Round Rock!

Father’s Day weekend is upon us and it’s time to celebrate that special father figure in your life. Here are some activities to do with your dad this Father’s Day weekend.

Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20 take your dad out to the Juneteenth Rhythm and Ribs Celebration for barbeque, games, live music and entertainment. Eleven Fingered Charlie is playing at 3 pm. Go to the Round Rock Amphitheater and have a good time from 5 pm to 8 pm on Friday and 11 am to 6 pm on Saturday. For more information about the Juneteenth Celebration visit www.thevoicerr.com.

Sunday, June 21 why don’t you take your dad out to the pool? All the city pools will be open on Father’s Day so show your dad how much you love him with a splash and a ride down the water slide! To get hours and prices for the pools visit www.roundrocktexas.gov/pools.

Summer Concert Pictures PLUS Online Registration for Non-residents begins Today!

Pictures from Sunday's concert with Pride and Joy will be loaded on the City's flickr page today. Check out the fun and see if you were captured in any pictures. The next concert is September 14 featuring the Los Texas Wranglers. This is the last summer concert for the season, so if you have not been able to make it out yet, we would love to see there!

Also, non-residents are able to start registering for fall programs today!! Visit roundrockrecreation.com to view fall 2008 programs and register online.

Round Rock Summer Concert Series Presents Pride and Joy

Round Rock Summer Concert Series presents Pride and Joy, Sunday, August 10 at 7 pm. Pride and Joy will perform at the Round Rock Amphitheatre, 301 W. Bagdad, as part of the Summer Concert Series.

If you enjoy live music and new talent, you should come check these guys out! Pride and Joy sing the "electrified blues." Their latino, rock sound will be sure to move you all night long!! So bring your friends, family, and your dogs out to the concert Sunday night. See you there!

The Texas Gypsies Performance

Sunday's concert was fantastic. The Texas Gypsies' cool, mellow sound dazzled the audience and made for a great evening. I brought my dogs to the concert and they were in good company with quite a few other dogs.

If you missed the show you can view the pictures on the City's flickr page. And do not worry, there are still more concerts to come this summer and fall. The next concert is scheduled for August 10th featuring Pride and Joy.

Free Concert This Sunday

There will be another concert this Sunday July, 13, 2008 featuring the Texas Gypsies. The show starts at 7 pm and will be at the Round Rock Amphitheatre (301 W. Bagdad). If you like live music and are into seeing new and upcoming bands you should check these guys out. The Texas Gypsies describe their music as an upbeat, singable or danceable sound that turns people's heads.

At the last concert we were also able to enjoy the view of the bats from the McNeil bridge flying overhead. It was a great addition to the show.

We encourage you to bring your dogs out. It's a good opportunity to get them out and about in the community. I like to take mine to the Round Rock Dog Depot Dog Park before we come out so that they are nice and relaxed for the show.

Get The Most Out of Your Summer

Are you taking advantage of the summer days? There is so much to do during the summer. Ride your bike along the Brushy Creek Trail, take a dip in one of Round Rock's three swimming pools, join that new club you have been wanting to try, get involved with volunteer work or take your dog to the dog park for a play-date. I always feel that I have more time during the summer. If you feel the same way I do, then start doing something fun with your extra time. Take advantage of the great parks, events, and classes in your community.

Just to remind you, some summer events to look out for are: Summer Concert Series, Movies in Your Park, Cultural Summer Series, new classes at the Clay Madsen Center and sport leagues for adults and children. It is a great time to get involved and enjoy these summer days. Although we might complain about the heat, as Texans, we know deep down that this is our favorite part of the year, so enjoy it!

Did You Miss Zack Walther and the Cronkites? No Worries..

Sunday nights concert was a blast! We had about 100 people show up to listen to Zack Walther and the Cronkites.

The guys put on a fantastic show with a country-rock sound that filled the amphitheatre. We were also able to see the bats fly out from the McNeil bridge. There were thousands of bats flying above and around the concert. It was a great addition to the live music.

If you were not able to come out and see Zack and the boys perform, there will be another free, live music show July 13, 2008 featuring the swinging sounds of the Texas Gypsies.
