This weekend, June 5-7, the Super Series South Tx State Championship is going on here in Round Rock at Old Settlers Park. There will be recycling bins out there to promote being green, so look out for those.

After the fun of watching or playing in the Super Series take the quick trip to the Rock’N River Family Aquatic Center. After being in the heat, Rock’N River will be a great place to cool down.

Tennis Madness in March

Frosty January days have come and gone and cupid’s month is nearly up so what do you have planned for March? The birds are chirping and the temperature is just right so, why not come play a little tennis? On March 4th at 6p.m. the Parks and Recreation Department will dedicate a new tennis building! The new facility will include a climate controlled bathroom. Modern amenities such as this as well as large storage areas will help tournament organizers ensure successful events at Old Settlers Park. Come show off that mean backhand of yours you’ve been hiding all winter. Dust off your racket and meet us on the court.

Construction update: baseball fields at Old Settlers Park

We opened the Hall of Fame Softball Complex back on November 1 and girls' softball is underway. If you haven't seen the fields - what are you waiting for? They're awesome!!! Plus, they give a preview of what the baseball complex will look like. We are currently on schedule to open the baseball complex in early February. The bleacher shade structures, playgrounds, and parking lots are complete at the majority of the baseball complexes. Items that remain to be completed include the concrete sidewalks, masonry work, batting cages, landscaping and restroom improvements. The baseball complex is still closed due to the construction site.

In the meantime, the Round Rock Baseball League is planning their spring season. Registration is around the corner, and we will post info on here as it becomes available. The Round Rock Baseball League website is www.leaguelineup.com/rrbl. Bookmark it today!

Today I went up on a ladder 85 feet in the air to get some aerial shots of the Old Settlers Park Hall of Fame Softball Complex! Check out the pics at the city's flickr page.

Ball Field Closure

Just to remind you, Old Settlers Park baseball and softball complex is officially closing July 21, 2008 for renovations. To make sure that we can finish the complex in a timely manner and keep the community safe, it was decided that closing the fields completely is the best way to make everything happen.

Field closure will allow for this two-year project to be a one-year project. The City is producing rapid results and we look forward to having a great complex. The park will reopen in phases. The new girls softball complex is under construction and set to open in November 2008. The baseball complex is expected to be complete in February for Spring ball 2009.

I cannot wait, there will be shading structures, bleachers, playgrounds, lights, and upgraded concession and restroom facilities. Not to mention great ball fields. The new complex is really going to build upon the Sports Capital of Texas image we are creating in Round Rock.
