Round Rock City Council to rededicate three revitalized community parks this Saturday!

The Round Rock City Council will host three ribbon cuttings to rededicate Rock Hollow Park, Settlement Park and Buck Egger Park and the community is invited to come and celebrate this Saturday morning. Light refreshments will be served. The ribbon cuttings will take place at the following times and locations:

9:00am Rock Hollow Park, 1415 Apollo Circle
9:45am Settlement Park, 1401 David Curry Loop
10:30am Buck Egger Park, 900 S. Mays

The City Council approved $750,000 in 2011 and $625,000 in 2012 as part of the Repair and Replacement Program to revitalize community parks throughout Round Rock. This program is also part of the City Council's overall Neighborhood Revitalization Program. The City's Parks Development Division has been steadily revitalizing various parks throughout the community collaborating with local neighborhoods to ensure local needs are met.

Rock Hollow Park located at 1415 Apollo Circle has received a $128,388 face lift including the installation of a ½ mile of concrete trails and various ADA accessibility improvements.

Settlement Park located at 1401 David Curry Loop received a $141,643 remodel that includes new playscapes, concrete trails, retaining wall, privacy fencing, shade structure, pond aerator, ADA accessibility improvements and new trees.

Buck Egger Park located at 900 S. Mays, with the use of $430,711 from the US House and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant funding (CDBG), now includes a new parking lot, a new synthetic turf multipurpose field (the first ever in the City) and a new grass multipurpose field.

Additional parks scheduled for revitalization this year include Somerset Park located at 1814 Taron Cove. Renovations will include a new playground, concrete trail, shade structure, site furnishings (picnic tables, benches, drinking fountains) and basketball court.

Chisholm Valley Park located at 1201 Tray St. will include the renovation of playground, shade structure, ½ mile of concrete trail, multipurpose recreation field, site furnishings (picnic tables, benches, drinking fountains) and trees.

Other community parks that will be revitalized this year include Kinningham Recreation Center located at 1000 Southcreek Dr. and Mesa Village Park located at 1401 Georgetown St.

Round Rock Parks and Recreation hosting Play for All Abilities Park Volunteer Day!

Round Rock's Play for All Abilities Park is almost completed and will open with a Grand Opening Celebration February 2012! The City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Play for All Abilities Park Volunteer Day and we need at least 300 people to help. Come join us for this historic occasion as we put the finishing touches on this one of a kind park. Come join us Saturday, January 28 from 9:00am to 12:00 noon and help us Sod various park areas, paint, general clean up and other light construction duties.

The Daddy Daughter Dance at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center is a perfect time to create a special and memorable experience with your daughter! Dress up, take pictures and dance the night away! Enjoy dancing to all types of music, a dance contest, refreshments, activities and professional photography at the event. This year's theme is : "You Are My Shining Star"

There will be 2 identical dances for 2 age groups on Saturday, February 4, 2011:

5:30 to 7:30 p.m. - Girls age infant through 7
8:00 to 10:00 p.m. - Girls age 8 and up

Tickets are only $7 per person and can be purchased online at www.roundrockrecreation.com or in person at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center or the Parks & Recreation office located at 301 West Bagdad, Suite 250. You may also purchase tickets by phone by calling 218-5540.

Both dances are identical. If you have multiple daughters, we recommend selecting one of the two dances for you all to attend. This event usually sells out so get your tickets early!

Fall Fun Festival Monday, October 31st!

The Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department Fall Fun Festival 2011 will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 31st at the Lakeview Pavilion festival area at Old Settlers Park. This event is FREE and open to the public!

All residents are encouraged to come on down to the “Circus Fantasy” themed Fall Fun Festival. This is a fun and FREE event for toddlers and preschoolers. Participants will receive goodie bags full of candy at the entrance and then can go run and play all of the carnival games including cookie stacking, spider ring toss, pumpkin knock down and much more! Residents may also enjoy hayrides through the park and cookies and punch! Guest are encouraged to come in costume.

Round Rock Public Library staff will be at the event reading books at the festival and guests can climb on board a fire truck and meet the Round Rock firemen. Guests are encouraged to bring a canned food item to donate to the Round Rock Serving Center. The Round Rock Area Serving Center, a Texas non-profit corporation, also known as the Serving Center, carries out a community-wide mission of churches, other organizations and individuals serving human needs in the City of Round Rock and surrounding areas.

NEW FOR OUR 2011 SUMMER DAY CAMPS: ONLINE PAYMENT PLAN OPTION & AUTOMATIC PAYMENT DRAFTS!
You may now register for Summer Day Camps entirely online and use our new online payment plan option or choose to pay in full. If you choose to use our payment plan option, you will be required to pay 30% of all weeks you choose to register for at time of registration; the remaining 70% is due on the 10th of the month, one month in advance. Payment plan options are also available for in person registration.

ALSO NEW FOR 2011!
Automatic payment drafts using your credit/debit card are available for those using the payment plan option. This feature can be added to your account at any time. If you are interested in setting up automatic payment drafts, you must visit our Main PARD office or Clay Madsen Recreation Center to complete required paperwork. For more than 10 years, the Round Rock Parks & Recreation Department has offered a variety of after school programs, preschool programs, summer day camps and sports camps for children of all ages.

SUMMER DAY CAMPS:
Kapers and Kids & Rockin' R Summer Day Camps offer a wide variety of activities each related to a weekly theme including indoor and outdoor games, sports activities, cooking projects, arts and crafts, movies, fieldtrips to exciting destinations and swimming!

Adaptive Youth Camp is for youth (ages 6-12) with disabilities; Adaptive Teen Camp is for teens and adults (ages 13-21) with disabilities. This program offers special daily activities, each related to a weekly theme, including swimming, field trips, arts and crafts, sports, drama, cooking, group games and more. A small counselor to camper ratio insures all participants get the attention they need.

Summer Sports Camps for all ages are available. Camps include Sporty's for Shorty's, Slam'n Jam'n Basketball Camp, Flag Football, Brandy Perryman Shooting Camp, Fencing, Shoot for the Stars Harlem Legends Basketball, Karate, Sportball, Habits Elite Basketball, Girls Volleyball, Golf, Tennis, Racquetball and much more.
The camps are staffed by energetic, talented and motivated counselors and offer a variety of activities for children of all ages and interests. All camps take place at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center, Kinningham House, Old Settlers Association Tabernacle and Old Settlers Park.

Rockin' Around the Holidays Bazaar Happens Tomorrow!

Finish your holiday shopping before Thanksgiving at the 2010 Rockin' Around the Holidays Bazaar (Arts & Crafts Show) at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center gym this Saturday, November 13th. Admission is FREE so come shop and enjoy arts, crafts, jewelry and more.

Come visit more than 75 vendors! You are sure to find something for everyone!

The Holidays Bazaar begins at 9:00 a.m. and runs till 4:00 p.m. For more information or to view a current list of registered vendors, visit our website.

Plant a tree for Arbor Day

The Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department will hold an Arbor Day Tree Planting event at Kensington Park (1891 Oxford Blvd., Round Rock) from 9 to 11 a.m. this Saturday, May 1. Bring gloves and a willingness to work.

We will plant 55 trees in Kensington Park north of the Dell campus. Volunteers will meet by the playground in the middle of the Park at 8:30 a.m. to sign in, hear welcoming remarks and an Arbor Day Proclamation. Planting begins at 9 a.m. sharp.

Volunteers will receive an Arbor Day T-shirt, free tree and gift certificates for free mulch at the city's Brush and Recycling Center. To volunteer, please call 733-7625.

Arbor Day is America's National Tree Holiday, a day set aside to plant ceremonial trees, educate the public about the importance of trees, and honor the vital role trees play in our everyday lives. The brainchild of journalist Julius Sterling Morton, the first Arbor Day took place on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska. Today, National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April.

Get ready for the 2010 Texas Road Rash Inline Skate Marathon on April 24th and 25th! Visit www.texasroadrash.com for all the details and to register online for the event! Prepare for the Texas Road Rash by participating in one of the FREE group skating events presented by Hill Country Inline Club. Interested skaters should meet in the Dell Diamond parking lot. All skating events will take place in Round Rock’s Old Settlers Park. All ages are welcome!
