Round Rocker: Parks and Recreation 411

New Way to Get Involved & Celebrate July 4

During this years’ July 4 Frontier Days Celebration the City of Round Rock will be honoring the soldiers from Fort Hood who were recently deployed to Iraq. If you did not know already, The City of Round Rock and the Chamber of Commerce has teamed together to “adopt” a unit from Fort Hood to support them and their families while they are gone.

During the parade we will have a Hum V from Fort Hood and a city vehicle traveling behind it with volunteers collecting donations to put toward care packages for the soldiers. If you miss the parade, there is another opportunity to make a donation during the watermelon cutting, 7 p.m. at the Lakeview Pavilion in Old Settlers Park.

This is a great way to show neighboring soldiers that we care for them. These men and women are far away from their families and homes, and fighting on our behalf. Being able to get food, toys, letters, or newspapers from home can help make their time away that much better.

You can find a list of donation items on the City’s website at, and as always, your comments are welcome! Let me know if you have any questions or concerns...
