Looking for a free Spring Break activity for your family? Bring your family to one of our free boat buidling schools. It’s never too early to start planning for the wackiness that is Round Rock the Boat Regatta, and the Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled free boat building schools!

You will get all the information you need to make your own cardboard boat and partisepate in the Round Rock the Boat Regatta. Cardboard will be available at the workshops and at our Round Rock Recycling Center.

Free Boat Building Schools:

The Round Rock the Boat Regatta happens May 15 at the Lake at Old Settlers Park. Pits open at 9:00 a.m. and the race begins at 12 p.m.

Road Rash is coming to Round Rock

It's not to late to register for the 2010 Texas Road Rash Inline Skate Marathon happening April 24th and 25th.

Prepare for the Texas Road Rash by participating in one of the FREE group skating events presented by Hill Country Inline Club. Interested skaters should meet in the Dell Diamond parking lot. All skating events will take place in Round Rock’s Old Settlers Park. All ages are welcome.

The Round Rock Parks & Recreation Department presents their annual Easter Egg Hunts at Old Setters Park located at 3300 Palm Valley Blvd. in Round Rock. Come and visit the Easter Bunny and take part in these traditional holiday events!

Flashlight Egg Hunt:
When:         Thursday, April 1
Where:        Old Settlers Park (Lakeview Pavilion)
Fee:            $4 pre-registration
                     $5 on-site (Cash & check only)
Ages:          3 years and older

Round Rock the Boat Regatta FREE Boat Building Schools

What Floats Your Boat? The Round Rock the Boat Regatta takes place on May 15, and Old Settlers Park will be full of spectators waiting to see who will float, sink or swim at this fun event. Contestants make boats out of cardboard and tape and rely on their inventions to keep them afloat as they travel across the lake at Old Settlers Park.

The 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. dance is for girls up to seven years old. The 8:00pm to 10:00pm dance is for older girls ages 8 and over. Tickets are just $7. What Dog Park events do you want?

The City of Round Rock opened the Round Rock Dog Depot, the city's first dog park, within the city's Lake Creek Park on March 29. Now that the park is open, the City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department wants to know what kind of events you'd like to see at the dog park! We have some ideas, but we want your feedback.

Do you want a giant dog walk event? Barktoberfest? Yappy Happy Hours? Pet adoptions? Done Gone-it Microchip events?

Post your ideas and we'll compile a survey for you to vote on the best ideas.

Round Rock the Boat Regatta

The City is hosting the Round Rock the Boat Regatta- Cardboard Boat Float on May 17.

Does your cardboard boat float? Are you not sure? Well don't sink out- participate in a free workshop at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center on Saturday, March 29 from 9 am - noon on how to make a cardboard boat.

Contestants will make boats out of cardboard and tape and attempt to float across the lake. For more information on the boat regatta visit www.roundrocktexas.gov/rocktheboat.

City's Parks and Recreation Survey now online for Strategic Master Plan Input

The City of Round Rock hosted a series of open houses in February for citizen input on the Parks and Recreation Department's Strategic Master Plan which sets priorities for parks and recreation programs and facilities for the next 5-10 years.

"Now is a crucial time for us to obtain citizen feedback because we are planning the direction for the parks and recreation department for the next several years," Parks and Recreation Director Rick Atkins said. "We need that input to ensure we're adding parks and amenities that our customers desire."

Hippity Hoppity- Its Egg Hunt Time

Flashlight Egg Hunt March 20 / Traditional Egg Hunt March 22

The City of Round Rock will host two egg hunts. The Flashlight Egg Hunt on March 20 and the traditional egg hunt on March 22.

Flashlight Egg Hunt:
Grab a flashlight and come out to Old Settlers Park on March 20 at 7 pm for the Flashlight Egg Hunt.

Children bring their flashlight and egg basket to hunt for eggs filed with candy, prizes and glow toys. Children are divided by age and released into the fenced in hunt area.
Families who pre-register are entered into a raffle for a special shopping spree. The event is $4 through 5 pm March 20 and $5 at the event. Families are encouraged to arrive 45 minutes before their child's scheduled hunt time to allow time to park and check in. For safety reasons, children missing their egg hunt will not be allowed to hunt with older age groups.

Flashlight Egg hunt Ages and Times:
7 pm for ages 3 - 4 years
7:30 pm for ages 5 - 6 years
8:30 pm for ages 7 - 9 years
9 pm for ages 10+ years
Fee: $4 pre-register January 2 - March 20 at 5 pm Register online at www.roundrockrecreation.com

Egg Hunt March 22
For those interested in a traditional egg hunt, the City of Round Rock will host the free annual egg hunt at 9 am at Old Settlers Park with the Easter Bunny and plenty of candy to hunt.

Schedule:
9 am 0-4 year olds
9:30 am 5-7 year olds
10 am 8-9 year olds
10:30 am 10-12 year olds

Please leave the family pet at home.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to come and provide feedback to the Parks and Recreation Department at our Strategic Master Plan open houses throughout the month of February. We received more than 325 surveys and when you combine that to the 600 phone surveys = we have almost 1000 citizens providing feedback on this project.

We'll hold focus group meetings next and analyze survey results to develop the needs assessment for the parks and recreation system. Stay tuned for more updates!

Attend a Parks and Recreation Strategic Master Plan Open House

The City of Round Rock is hosting a series of open houses in February for input on the Parks and Recreation Department's Strategic Master Plan which sets priorities for parks and recreation programs and facilities for the next 5-10 years.

During the open houses, attendees will get an overview of the parks and recreation programs and amenities in Round Rock and receive the opportunity to provide input on amenities for city parks and programming. In a short survey, attendees will indicate if they want more trails in Round Rock, a BMX park, nature preserves, art and cultural centers, among many other possibilities.

"We need that input to ensure we're adding parks and amenities that our customers desire."

Open houses begin on Wednesday, Feb. 6 and continue on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the month of February at various City facilities and schools.

All open houses are from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

The project began with a phone survey to 400 households in November and individual discussions with Round Rock City Council members about parks and recreation issues. In addition, the project will include focus group meetings with homeowner associations and citizen groups.
