Centennial Plaza

Brushy Creek Regional Trail Gap Project

FREE "Touch A Truck" event comes to Old Settlers Park this Saturday!

The City of Round Rock's Parks and Recreation Department will hold a FREE "Touch a Truck" event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3 at Old Settlers Park (corner of Red Bud Lane and TC Oatts Lane) for kids of all ages!

Name a child who wouldn't love to climb aboard a fire truck, helicopter, big rig or bulldozer! Touch a Truck provides a unique opportunity for children to explore vehicles of all types - public service, emergency, utility, construction, transportation, delivery and just plain cool - all in one place. Those young and young at heart will be allowed to touch, climb on and ask questions about their favorite trucks in a safe, supervised environment. Accompanying personnel will teach the children about the equipment displayed and how these machines help us and our community. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. There will be a "no horn hour" for those with sensitive ears or who do not respond well to loud noises from 1 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bring out the entire family to enjoy sitting in these trucks and learning about what they do, how they work, and how they benefit our community. Along with all of the vehicles, there will also be a Kids Fun Zone with various activities. Food and beverage vendors will also be onsite. The event is FREE, but guests are encouraged to bring a canned item food donation to the Round Rock Serving Center.

FREE Fall Fun Fest October 31st at Old Settlers Park!

The Round Rock Parks and Recreation Fall Fun Festival 2012 will take place from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 31 at the Lakeview Pavilion festival area at Old Settlers Park. This event is sponsored by Randalls Market and Spirit 105.9 Radio.This year's theme is Dr. Seuss. We will have carnival games for toddlers and preschoolers, hay rides, train rides, story time, cookies and punch and fun entertainment for all to enjoy. Guests are encouraged to bring a canned item for the Round Rock Serving Center. Please come in costume and enjoy this FREE family event!

We are just 3 days away from the 26th Annual Outlaw Trail 100 Cycling Tour! You may register online now at www.outlawtrail100.com. You may register in person by delivering your registration form to Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department at 301 W Bagdad Suite 250, Round Rock, TX, 78664.

The 2012 Outlaw Trail Cycling Tour will be held at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at Old Settlers Park beginning at the Dell Diamond parking lot.

Each year, the Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department hosts the Outlaw Trail 100 Cycling Tour featuring 10 mile, 25 mile, 40 mile, 50 mile, 63 mile, and 100 mile loop courses on county roads through historic Williamson County. Outlaw Trail isn't competitive; it is an opportunity to join cyclists from across Texas for a ride across Williamson
County.

There are rest stops set up along the trail for cyclists to grab some snacks or a drink. Riders can ride at their own pace and rely on support from sag wagons and rest stops throughout their ride. The tour closes at 5:00 p.m. so cyclists should select a course they can finish within that time period.

Somerset and Chisholm Valley Park get huge makeovers!

The Round Rock City Council hosted two ribbon cuttings to rededicate Somerset and Chisholm Valley Park and the community came out to celebrate. The City Council approved $625,000 in 2012 as part of the Repair and Replacement Program to revitalize community parks and facilities throughout Round Rock. This program is also part of the City Council’s overall Neighborhood Revitalization Program. The City’s Parks Development Division has been steadily revitalizing various parks throughout the community collaborating with neighborhoods to ensure local resident’s needs are met.

The $241,000 renovation at Somerset Park located at 1814 Taron Cove include a new playground, concrete trail, shade structure, site furnishings (picnic tables, benches, drinking fountains) and basketball court.

The $334,406 renovation at Chisholm Valley Park located at 1201 Tray St. include new playgrounds, shade structure, ½ mile of concrete and granite trail, multipurpose recreation field, site furnishings (picnic tables, benches, drinking fountains) and trees.

Other parks that have been revitalized this year were Rock Hollow Park located at 1415 Apollo Circle that received a $128,388 face lift including the installation of a ½ mile of concrete trails and various ADA accessibility improvements.

Settlement Park located at 1401 David Curry Loop received a $141,643 remodel that included a new playscape, concrete trails, retaining wall, privacy fencing, shade structure, pond aerator, ADA accessibility improvements and new trees.

Buck Egger Park located at 900 S. Mays, with the use of $430,711 from the US House and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant funding (CDBG), now includes a new parking lot, a new synthetic turf multipurpose field (the first ever in the City) and a new grass multipurpose field.

Other community parks that will be revitalized this year include Kensington Park located at 1000 Southcreek Dr. and Mesa Village Park located at 1401 Georgetown St.

Family Campout this Friday at Old Settlers Park!

The City of Round Rock's Parks and Recreation Department presents the second annual Family Campout this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 21 and 22, at Old Settler’s Park.

Come Camp with us in Old Settlers Park! It is said that a family that plays together stays together. Is there a better way to create lasting memories than through camping, fishing or other similar activities? We don’t think so; however, fewer families are enjoying these activities, the outdoors, and each other.

The Outdoor Family Campout can help provide basic outdoor skills necessary for an enjoyable and successful outdoor experience. More importantly, it shows families how fun the outdoors can be. The campout will lead into National Hunting and Fishing Day.

Activities include rock climbing, lawn games, a reptile and wildlife demonstration, tent decorating contest and more!

Registration for the campout is required and each person attending must be registered. Children ages 2 and under are free and do not need to register. Registration fee includes two meals (hamburger/hot dog dinner on Friday and breakfast on Saturday), instructional how-to sessions, use of demonstration equipment and a t-shirt for each paid participant. The Dolphin Tale Experince coming to "Movies in the Park" Friday night!

The finale in this summer’s “Movies in the Park” series may be the best one yet. In a partnership with Hanger, Inc., the City of Round Rock brings you an interactive experience of the real Dolphin Tale story. On Friday, August 10, the Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department presents Dolphin Tale on a large, 50 foot blowup movie screen in Old Settlers Park. Hanger, Inc., the company that makes the prosthetic, has relocated to Austin and will be present at the movie to allow everyone to view the original prosthetic tail and ask any questions about the project. The event will begin at 7:30pm.

It’s the story of a dolphin named Winter who was caught in a crab trap. She was freed, but was forced to part with her tail. When her story reached prosthetist Kevin Carroll, the vice president of prosthetics at Hanger, Inc. and volunteer at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, he and fellow prosthetist Dan Strzempka developed the world’s first prosthetic tail to replace the entire tail fluke of a dolphin. Along with the development of the prosthetic tail came the creation of something else, called WintersGel, that originally worked to protect Winter’s delicate skin and prevent the tail from slipping. WintersGel is now used as a liner to provide comfort for human amputees who need additional cushioning due to bony spurs or challenging amputations. For more than five years now, Carroll and Strzempka have volunteered their nights and weekends to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium to fabricate a series of tails for Winter as she grows and develops.

Let the story of a brave little dolphin and her human angels captivate and inspire you. Bring the entire family out to Old Settlers Park at 7:30 pm to partake in the interactive Dolphin Tale Experience. There will be giveaways and a video of Winter working with her trainer as well as an up-close look at Winter’s first prosthetic tail. Representatives from Hanger, Inc. will be on site to answer questions and provide more information.

As always, feel free to bring blankets and chairs to make yourself comfortable. This will be a perfect night for a family picnic in the park. Kona Ice will also be on site with their signature treats.

It's one big pool party! Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department brings you the Family Summer Splash - a pool party packed with fun and games for all ages. There will be a prize dive, frozen t-shirt race, inner tube race, tug of war, and much MUCH more!

Free pizza will be available but you can also bring in your own picnic. Free watermelon will be served by the lifeguards. Bring the whole family out to Micki Krebsbach Pool this Saturday, August 4 from 4:00-7:00 pm for all the fun and games of a pool party! Regular admission fees and all pool rules apply. Alcohol is strictly prohibited.

Round Rock's 9th Annual 5K for Clay takes place at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center. The event honors Clay Madsen and the Clay Madsen Recreation Center which strives to be a safe place where children and adults can learn the leadership and sportsmanship qualities that Clay upheld in his life which was ended by cancer. The first 350 entrants will receive a 5K for Clay dry fit runners shirt. Register now before early registration ends on August 8th!

* Adults (18 and older): $23 pre register (ends August 8th); $28 late/on site registration

Packet Pickup and Chip Timing:
Early Packet Pick up is at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center from Noon to 9:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10. Participants may also pick up race packets on site on event day.

5K for Clay is a chip timed event. Chip timing for the 2012 event will be provided by Cadence Sports. If you do not wear a chip, you will not be timed and will not be included in any results. All chips must be surrendered at the finish line.

Immediately following the 5K for Clay, join us for an Open House, featuring all that Parks and Recreation has to offer. There will be information booths featuring different classes and programs, as well as demonstrations to try out the fun before signing up. There will be door prizes, refreshments and more! You can also take a tour of the Clay Madsen Recreation Center and see the many amenities the facility has to offer. The Round Rock Public Library will also be onsite with information on their many programs.

As part of the Open House, come join Tennis Professional Jack Alsup for a Tennis Play Day and learn all about the U.S. Tennis Association's 10 and Under Tennis Program. Demo stations will be set up for players to try out the equipment and receive guidance from an instructor. This is a free event, but pre-registration is encouraged (*20411). For ages 4-10 years. Parking:
Limited event parking will be located on site at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center. Additional parking will be available at the Shops of Turtle Creek located one block south from the Recreation center. Mayor McGraw to officially rededicate Main Street Plaza to Former Parks and Recreation Director

Round Rock Mayor Alan McGraw and members of the Round Rock City Council will officially rededicate the Main Street Plaza to former Parks and Recreation Director Sharon Prete during a ribbon cutting and sign unveiling ceremony and the public is invited to share in the celebration.

A new sign has been fabricated and installed in the Main Street Plaza to honor Sharon Prete, former Round Rock Parks and Recreation Director and creator of the People and Parks Fund administered through the Greater Round Rock Community Foundation. Prete served the City of Round Rock for more than 25 years and the Mayor and City Council are thrilled to rename the Plaza after Mrs. Prete. After the official ceremony, the official name of the Plaza will be the Sharon Prete Main Street Plaza. Light refreshments will also be served at the event.

The Sharon Prete Main Street Plaza was completed at the end of summer 2011 and opened to the public in early October. The 14,000sf Main Street Plaza includes a 610sf performance stage, 1,075sf interactive water feature, built in seating with decorative lighting, 4,000sf of grass seating and lounge area, custom shade structure, custom art panels and a state-of-the-art multifunctional lighting system.

Juneteenth Festival coming to Old Settlers Park!

“The Voice” Inc. and the City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department are joining forces again for the 4th annual Round Rock Juneteenth Rhythm and Ribs Celebration on Friday, June 15 (6:30 pm to 10:00 pm) and Saturday, June 16 (11:00 am to 10:00 pm) at the Rabb Pavilion in Old Settlers Park located at 3300 E. Palm Valley Blvd. The event is FREE for the entire family!

The festivities begin on Friday, June 17 at 6:30 pm with a Night of Jazz. The celebration continues Saturday, June 16 at 11:00 am. The barbeque cook-off participants arrive at 8:00 am Saturday to receive ribs and cook until judging at 1:00 pm. At 12:00 pm, the opening welcome from the Round Rock City Council kicks off the day’s festivities.

The entertainment on Saturday includes the headliner Les and the Funk Mob. Funk Mob will perform at 7:00pm! There will also be carnival rides, clowns, games, a car show, a health fair, food, retail vendors and much, much more!

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the emancipation of slavery in the state of Texas. Today, Juneteenth celebrates African American freedom while encouraging self-development and respect for all cultures.

Once again Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department presents FREE Movies in the Park events at Main Street Plaza and Old Settlers Park. Bring your blankets and chairs and enjoy these free family events.

Unleashed is a band of young musicians from Round Rock. They play and perform way above their years! Members range in age 12-15. They have been together since April 2010. They play classic and current hits from every generation! They perform regularly in venues and concert halls all over Central Texas.

The Main Street Plaza Water Fountain is now open for a splashing good time for summer fun! We are pleased to inform our residents that the Main Street Plaza Fountain is water conservation friendly. The fountain recirculates and filters its own water source and has very little evaporation.Come make a splash! The Main Street Plaza Water Fountain is now open Sunday – Wednesday 7:30am to 10:00pm and Thursday – Saturday 7:30am to 11:00pm. Bring the kids and let the fun begin! Round Rock City Council to rededicate three revitalized community parks this Saturday!

The Round Rock City Council will host three ribbon cuttings to rededicate Rock Hollow Park, Settlement Park and Buck Egger Park and the community is invited to come and celebrate this Saturday morning. Light refreshments will be served. The ribbon cuttings will take place at the following times and locations:

9:00am Rock Hollow Park, 1415 Apollo Circle
9:45am Settlement Park, 1401 David Curry Loop
10:30am Buck Egger Park, 900 S. Mays

The City Council approved $750,000 in 2011 and $625,000 in 2012 as part of the Repair and Replacement Program to revitalize community parks throughout Round Rock. This program is also part of the City Council's overall Neighborhood Revitalization Program. The City's Parks Development Division has been steadily revitalizing various parks throughout the community collaborating with local neighborhoods to ensure local needs are met.

Rock Hollow Park located at 1415 Apollo Circle has received a $128,388 face lift including the installation of a ½ mile of concrete trails and various ADA accessibility improvements.

Settlement Park located at 1401 David Curry Loop received a $141,643 remodel that includes new playscapes, concrete trails, retaining wall, privacy fencing, shade structure, pond aerator, ADA accessibility improvements and new trees.

Additional parks scheduled for revitalization this year include Somerset Park located at 1814 Taron Cove. Renovations will include a new playground, concrete trail, shade structure, site furnishings (picnic tables, benches, drinking fountains) and basketball court.

Chisholm Valley Park located at 1201 Tray St. will include the renovation of playground, shade structure, ½ mile of concrete trail, multipurpose recreation field, site furnishings (picnic tables, benches, drinking fountains) and trees.

Other community parks that will be revitalized this year include Kinningham Recreation Center located at 1000 Southcreek Dr. and Mesa Village Park located at 1401 Georgetown St.

Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt & Movie in the Park all in one fun filled evening!

Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt & Movie in the Park this Thursday, April 5 at Old Settlers Park.

When the park is dark your flashlight will be your guide to candy, eggs, and prizes! In this annual flashlight egg hunt bring your light and basket to search for eggs in our treat filled hunt ring and then stay for the Movie in the Park event featuring the Easter family movie "HOP." Shine your light bright to find the special golden eggs you can redeem for a special prize basket! Please meet at the Lakeview Pavilion 30 minutes before your hunt time to check in.

Flashlight Egg Hunt & Movie in the Park schedule:

7:45 p.m.: Twilight Egg Hunt, for ages 0-4 years. Not quite as dark for our younger hunters. Only one parent will be allowed in the hunt ring to assist, Parent must stay with hunter at all times.

8:15 p.m.: Flashlight Parent Assisted Hunt, Ages 5 Years and Older- One parent will be allowed in the hung ring to assist, Recommended for our younger hunters. Parent must stay with hunter at all times.

8:30 p.m.: Flashlight Children Only Hunt, No parents allowed in the hunt ring, Recommended for our older hunters)

8:45 p.m.: Movie in the Park featuring the family Easter movie "HOP"

**Parents may choose which hunt they wish their Flashlight Egg Hunter to participate in, you know your child best; please choose the hunt most appropriate for them. The Movie in the Park will begin right after the egg hunts.

Meet at the Lakeview Pavillion in Old Settlers Park for check-in before the event. Please arrive 20-30 minutes early for your hunt.

FREE Round Rock Youth Fishing Derby this Saturday!

The City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department presents the first annual Youth Fishing Derby from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, March 31, in Old Settlers Park at Bright Lake. The event is free but you must register at www.roundrockrecreation.com.

All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

There will be two age divisions in this catch and release derby:

Junior Division (ages 6-9)
Senior Division (ages 10-12)
